About the role

Join the Southern Country CAMHS team delivering evidence-based mental health services to children and adolescents aged 0-16 years and their families. The CAMHS Clinician - Mental Health Clinical Nurse accepts accountability for the outcomes of clinical practice for children, adolescents and their families with mental health issues and for addressing inconsistencies between practice and policy. 

The role focuses on direct clinical practice, including discipline-specific assessment, clinical formulation and delivery of individual, family and group-based interventions. You will work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team, providing consultation and contributing to joint clinical work, education, and governance processes.

Responsibilities include high-quality clinical documentation, participation in case reviews, service evaluation and quality improvement activities, and promoting culturally safe, person-centred care. You will be supported through multidisciplinary collaboration, line management by the Service Manager, coordination with the Clinical Coordinator, access to clinical supervision, and opportunities for ongoing professional and leadership development.

Key duties of the role

• Direct delivery of proficient mental health nursing clinical care to clients and their families using evidence-based practice
• Contribute to the clinical leadership of nursing & multidisciplinary services for CAMHS to attain consistency of practice standards and local service outcomes
• Foster a positive, safe and culturally responsive work environment, ensuring services are delivered in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner.
• Actively contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education and training in mental health nursing, while maintaining responsibility for ongoing professional development and education.
• Actively participate in quality management, quality assurance and risk management activities and ongoing improvement of services 

Skills and Experience

• Registered or eligible for registration as a nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate. Must be enrolled in an approved mental health course or hold a qualification in mental health practice.
• Demonstrated experience in mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions for children and adolescents.
• Registered Nurse with at least 3 years, full time equivalent, post registration experience
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, teamwork, problem-solving and conflict-management skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary nursing practice, Work Health and Safety, continuous improvement and relevant nursing standards and policies.
