BTP is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join our Head Office team in Hazelmere.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys taking ownership of complex payroll activities, working closely with key stakeholders and ensuring employees are paid accurately, compliantly and on time.

Working within an established team, you will be responsible for the accurate end-to-end processing and validation of BTP's fortnightly payroll, supporting employees across our Australian operations. You will also play an important role in payroll compliance, reconciliations, reporting and continuous improvement.

About the Role

As our Senior Payroll Officer, you will manage a broad range of payroll activities across a complex operational workforce, partnering closely with Human Resources, Finance, managers and employees across the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Processing, reviewing and validating end-to-end fortnightly payroll for Australian employees
• Ensuring wages, salaries, allowances, deductions and other payroll inputs are processed accurately and within required timeframes
• Reviewing payroll outputs, investigating discrepancies and resolving payroll issues prior to finalisation
• Interpreting and applying Enterprise Agreements, Modern Awards, employment conditions, overtime provisions and allowances
• Calculating and processing terminations, back payments, leave adjustments, allowances, deductions and other payroll adjustments
• Ensuring compliance with applicable taxation, superannuation, payroll tax, Single Touch Payroll and employment legislation
• Maintaining accurate employee payroll, leave and entitlement records
• Completing payroll reconciliations and ensuring alignment between payroll records and the general ledger
• Preparing payroll journals, reports, reconciliations and supporting documentation
• Responding to employee payroll enquiries and providing clear, professional advice on payroll-related matters
• Partnering with HR and Finance to ensure employee changes and payroll information are accurately reflected
• Supporting internal and external audit requirements and providing payroll documentation and analysis when required
• Monitoring changes to payroll legislation, agreements and internal policies and assisting with the implementation of required changes
• Maintaining payroll procedures, controls, checklists and supporting documentation
• Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and efficiencies
• Contributing to payroll system enhancements, projects and continuous improvement initiatives
• Preparing ad-hoc payroll analysis and reporting to support the wider business

About You

You are an experienced payroll professional who is comfortable working with complex pay conditions, competing deadlines and a diverse workforce.

You will bring:

• Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll within a large or complex organisation
• Strong practical knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and compliance requirements
• Demonstrated experience interpreting Enterprise Agreements, Modern Awards and complex employment conditions
• Experience processing and reconciling high-volume payrolls
• Strong understanding of payroll reconciliations, payroll journals and general ledger integration
• Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capability
• Confidence investigating payroll discrepancies and resolving complex payroll matters
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• A customer-focused approach when responding to employee and manager enquiries
• The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurately within strict payroll deadlines
• A proactive and continuous-improvement mindset

Experience using Pronto within a payroll or ERP environment will be highly regarded, along with strong Microsoft Excel skills including formulas, lookups, PivotTables and data analysis.

Previous experience within the mining, resources, heavy industry or services sector will also be advantageous.
