Trades Assistant

About the role

You will assist experienced tradespeople with roofing, wall cladding, material handling, access equipment, installation preparation and general construction activities. You will work across different project sites and help crews maintain safe, productive and organised work areas.

Key responsibilities

• Assist roof plumbers, roofing tradespeople, cladding installers and construction supervisors.

• Load, unload, move and organise roof sheeting, flashings, cladding, tools and materials.

• Prepare work areas, components and equipment for roofing and cladding installation.

• Use hand tools, power tools and mechanical equipment safely and correctly.

• Operate an EWP in accordance with your High Risk Work Licence, site rules and safe-work procedures.

• Assist with measurements, cutting, drilling, fixing, fastening and basic fabrication tasks.

• Support the installation of metal roofing, wall cladding, gutters, downpipes and flashings.

• Follow construction drawings, instructions, SWMS, JHAs, permits and site procedures.

• Participate in pre-start meetings, toolbox talks and site safety activities.

• Maintain clean, safe and organised work areas and protect completed work.

About you

• Current High Risk Work Licence for boom-type Elevating Work Platform (EWP/WP).

• Current Working at Heights certification.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and confidence using tools and equipment.

• Reliable own vehicle and the ability to travel directly to project sites.

• Current Construction White Card.

• Current unrestricted driver's licence.

• Full Australian working rights.

• Physically fit and capable of completing manual construction and roofing tasks.

• Previous experience as a Trades Assistant, Roofing Labourer, Construction Labourer or Mechanical Trade Assistant.

• Practical experience in roofing, roof plumbing, cladding, sheet metal, fabrication or commercial construction.
