Production Leading Hand

About the role

The Production Leading Hand supports the Operations Manager by coordinating the day-to-day operation of the production floor, ensuring production runs safely, efficiently and to the high standards expected at Van Diemen's Land Creamery. The role provides practical leadership throughout each shift by supporting the Production Team, coordinating workflow, maintaining production standards and responding to operational issues as they arise. By combining hands-on production experience with clear communication, coaching and problem solving, the role helps create an environment where people understand what is expected, work together effectively and take pride in producing premium products.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day production activities

• Support the Production Team throughout each shift

• Allocate work and adjust priorities to meet production requirements

• Ensure production targets are achieved safely and efficiently

• Assist with production planning and daily scheduling

• Support smooth production start-up, changeovers and shutdowns

• Provide coaching and guidance to Production Team members

• Support training and induction of new employees

• Ensure products are manufactured to specification and monitor production processes to maintain consistent quality

• Promote safe work practices at all times

About you

• Demonstrated experience in food manufacturing or a similar production environment

• Experience leading or coordinating teams in a practical operational setting

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

• Ability to remain calm under pressure while managing competing priorities

• Current Driver Licence

• Right to work in Australia

• Experience within dairy, ice cream or food manufacturing (desirable)

• HACCP or Food Safety qualification (desirable)

• Forklift Licence (desirable)

• First Aid qualification (desirable)
