About the role
Role Description The Senior / Lead Software Engineer at Better GIFT will design, develop, and maintain back-end services and APIs that support core product functionality. This part-time, hybrid role is based in Sydney, NSW, with flexibility to work from home for part of the week. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading technical design discussions, implementing scalable and secure server-side solutions, reviewing code, and mentoring other engineers. The role also involves collaborating with product and design teams to refine requirements, improving system performance and reliability, and establishing best practices in software development and deployment. The Senior / Lead Software Engineer will help shape the technical roadmap, contribute to architectural decisions, and ensure high-quality releases through testing and documentation.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in Computer Science principles, including data structures, algorithms, and software architecture.Proficiency in Back-End Web Development and Software Development, with experience building and maintaining production-grade services.Advanced Programming skills and hands-on experience with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) in one or more modern languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, TypeScript).Experience leading technical projects, conducting code reviews, and mentoring team members in best engineering practices.Familiarity with cloud platforms, databases (SQL and/or NoSQL), and RESTful or GraphQL APIs.Knowledge of testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and version control (e.g., Git) to support reliable delivery.Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work productively in a hybrid environment in Sydney, NSW.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Experience in a senior or lead engineering role and exposure to fintech, e-commerce, or gift-related products is beneficial.
