Financial Accountant

Edward River Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Financial Accountant to lead key financial accounting functions and provide expert financial advice and reporting services across the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial sustainability and strategic success of Council while leading a small team and driving continuous improvement within our Finance Department.

 Key Responsibilities:

·         Lead Council's financial accounting functions, including statutory reporting and compliance.

·         Coordinate the preparation of annual financial statements and statutory returns.

·         Manage Council's external audit processes and support internal audit activities.

·         Deliver monthly financial and investment reporting.

·         Oversee taxation compliance, including GST, BAS, FBT, payroll tax and fuel tax rebate requirements.

·         Support budget monitoring, financial analysis and management reporting.

·         Manage investment reporting and cash management activities.

·         Lead and develop the Financial Accounting team and foster a culture of customer service excellence and continuous improvement.

·         Provide expert financial advice to support informed decision-making across Council.

·         Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, accounting standards and the Local Government Code of Accounting Practice.

What You Will Bring:

·         Bachelor of Accounting or similar qualification.

·         Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional accreditation.

·         Demonstrated experience in financial accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and management accounting.

·         Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and develop practical solutions.

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·         Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop and support team members.

·         Sound understanding of risk management and Work Health & Safety principles.

·         Ability to build effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

·         Current Driver's Licence.

·         Ability to obtain a National Police Check and Working with Children Check
