About the Opportunity

HYPAR Residential Care is an innovative and growing support service, specialising in providing residential care for young people who have complex needs and challenging behaviour.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Youth Worker (Lead Mentor) who can provide support alongside our Care Team Leaders and Mentors.

About the Role

Senior Youth Worker (Lead Mentors) are responsible for supporting their Care Team Leader with administration tasks, scheduled house duties and providing coaching and guidance to the Mentors within their house/s.

A day in the role of our Senior Youth Worker (Lead Mentor) will include:

• Provide guidance and support to Mentors within your assigned houses around the young people’s behaviours, and weekly plan.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of Safety and Support Plans and once developed follow the plans in place and guide and support other Mentors in following the plans in place.

• Assist the Care Team Leader with managing house duties as directed within their house/s and keep appropriate records.

• You will be required to support service users with high levels of challenging behaviours, mental health issues, disabilities, or high medical needs.

• Responsible for meal planning and weekly shopping in their assigned house/s.

• Perform weekly house inspections.

• Ensure all relevant appointments are recorded and communicated effectively for all young people in their assigned house/s.

• Provide input into their Care Team Leader’s fortnightly summaries and young people’s care plans.

• Carry out administrative tasks as directed by the Care Team Leader.

We are currently looking to fill the Senior Youth Worker (Lead Mentor) position in the Moreton Bay and South West region with some travel to the Narangba and Mansfield offices.
 

About You

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

• Emotional intelligence, initiative and flexibility to build strong relationships with our young people

• A passion for building connections with community services

• Skilled in problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills

• Ability to exercise initiative and professional judgment

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• Time management and planning skills 

• Demonstrated ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviours 

• Ability to critically reflect on practice, both personally and professionally

• A solid understanding of mental health, support services and child, youth and family legislation as well as having a strong therapeutic background

Essential Requirements

You will also be required to have or ability to obtain: 

• Must have completed a Cert IV or higher in an industry relevant field

• Previous experience working in residential care or with young people with complex and challenging behaviours. 

• TCI Trained 

• Paid Blue Card 

• Paid NDIS Worker Screening (Formerly Yellow Card) 

• First Aid & CPR 

• Current Open QLD driver’s licence 

• Child Safety background screening check (LCS2)

• A working android or apple smartphone
