Software Team Lead - Node/AWS

Lead the future of enterprise platforms within a global organisation.

We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineering Team Lead to provide both technical and people leadership across a modern enterprise technology environment. This role will play a critical part in shaping the strategy, delivery and ongoing evolution of key platform services and applications, while leading a high-performing engineering team.

The Opportunity

As the Platform Engineering Team Lead, you will own the technical direction and operational performance of your platform domain, working closely with architecture, delivery and planning teams to ensure high-quality, scalable solutions are delivered in line with business objectives. Reporting to the Global Head of Platform Engineering, you will drive innovation, mentor engineers and contribute to the long-term success of the enterprise platform.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Domain Ownership

• Own the end-to-end delivery and operational performance of platform services and applications.
• Define and execute the long-term technical roadmap for your domain.
• Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and wider business priorities.
• Drive technical excellence, scalability and maintainability across all solutions.
• Lead technical decision-making and provide guidance on architectural approaches.

Architecture & Collaboration

• Partner closely with architecture teams to design and evolve platform capabilities.
• Evaluate solution options and technical trade-offs across multiple domains.
• Contribute to engineering best practices and ways of working.
• Support the architecture and delivery of both new initiatives and ongoing projects.

Team Leadership

• Mentor, coach and develop engineers within the team.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement and innovation.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and technical discussions.
• Support workforce planning, recruitment and team growth initiatives.

Delivery & Execution

• Ensure the successful delivery of roadmap commitments.
• Collaborate with delivery teams to scope, estimate and prioritise work.
• Monitor progress, identify risks early and manage dependencies.
• Oversee release readiness, integration activities and operational handover.
• Support business-as-usual activities and troubleshoot complex technical issues when required.

About You

You will bring proven experience leading engineering teams within modern cloud and API-driven environments and possess a strong balance of technical capability and people leadership.

Essential Experience

• Demonstrated leadership experience managing software engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and modern engineering practices.
• Experience delivering solutions across cloud, API and data-driven ecosystems.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strong mentoring, coaching and performance management capabilities.
• Hands-on experience with architectural patterns such as Hexagonal Architecture, BFF, MACH, Saga and Strangler Fig.
• Commercial experience with technologies including TypeScript, Node.js and PHP.
• Experience working with Git branching strategies, including GitFlow and trunk-based development.
• Familiarity with infrastructure and cloud tooling such as Terraform, Pulumi, SST and AWS CLI.
• Practical understanding of Domain-Driven Design.
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools while maintaining governance, quality and security
