Curatorial Dive Supervisor - SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast

About the Role

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast team as a Permanent Curatorial - Dive Supervisor. Reporting into the Curator, you will be responsible for coordinating the diving operations of the curatorial department as well as leading a team of Divers ensuring they are supported in delivering all animal welfare, displays, team development and guest experience objectives.

Further responsibilities include:

• Ensure the highest standards of animal husbandry, display presentation, technical operation, and safety in the daily diving operations of the SEA LIFE Aquarium.
• Monitor all public display areas to deliver a world-class guest experience.
• Lead divers by example, setting the standard for diving, husbandry and professionalism.
• Manage the diving processes to maintain optimal health of the collections in our care, while meeting or exceeding SEA LIFE network requirements.
• Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures that enhance dive practises, safety, husbandry and innovation, in conjunction with the Curator.
• Take responsibility for all diving including the SDX product within the SEA LIFE attraction.
• Lead, develop, and support the Curatorial team members in specific areas of responsibility.
• Assist the Curator in developing a collection management strategy for all species and displays.
• Coordinate closely with the Curator to ensure the curatorial team is appropriately staffed and meets daily department objectives.
• Collaborate with the Veterinarian and Veterinary Nurse to implement best practices for animal health and well-being.
• Build relationships with relevant organizations to establish the SEA LIFE attraction as a respected leader in the zoological/aquarium sector.
• Ensure adherence to SEA LIFE, Merlin CWE standards, and local authority requirements.
• Maintain animal management records according to SEA LIFE and Merlin policy and legislative requirements and meet all local and Merlin Dive standards for occupational and recreational diving.
• Strictly follow the health and safety policy to ensure the safety of staff, guests, animals and dive operations within displays.

About You

To be successful in this varied role, you will have a passion for the marine environment and public engagement. As the ideal candidate, you will also hold the following essential criterion:

You will:

• Have at least 5 years proven aquatic animal husbandry experience.
• You will have a high degree of supervisory skills in an aquatic display’s capacity.
• Be a team player, clear communicator, good planner with strong organisation skills.
• Be pragmatic, adept at problem solving and proactive with a solutions focus.
• Certified dive master or preferably dive instructor
• First aid, CPR and O2 provision certificate
• Hold a current AS2299 commercial dive medical and have the ability to dive regularly
• The following qualifications and experience would be an advantage:
• QLD Driver’s license
• Experience with dive operations
• A bachelor’s degree in Zoology or Biology or an equivalent Animal Care Diploma
