Workshop Trades Assistant

Cougar Group is a market-leading OEM manufacturer, hire fleet specialist, and aftermarket service provider for the underground coal mining industry in NSW and QLD. We design, engineer, manufacture, and assemble a diverse range of underground coal diesel equipment, including Personnel Transporters, Graders, Underground Dozers, and Longwall Chock Carriers.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Trade Assistant to join our Team, supporting workshop activities across new build and refurbishment projects for underground mining equipment. In this hands-on role, you will work closely with experienced tradespeople and supervisors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build their career in a mining or heavy industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist tradespeople with fitting, assembly, and repair tasks

• Prepare tools, parts, and equipment for scheduled work

• Perform general labouring duties including grinding, cleaning and painting

• Support manual handling and movement of components

• Participate in safety processes, including hazard reporting and risk assessments

• Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in a workshop or trade environment

• Strong commitment to WHS

• Good communication and teamwork skills

• Drivers license

• Current HR License - Fork Truck

• Experience working around heavy industrial or mining equipment
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Current HR License - Dogging, Intermediate Rigging

• Overhead Crane Competency RIIHAN305D
