About us

The South Australian Jockey Club is the custodian of Morphettville Racecourse and has played a central role in South Australian thoroughbred racing for more than 150 years. Racing is at the heart of a diverse precinct encompassing training, hospitality, major events, community activity and The Junction.

Following significant investment in its people, infrastructure, brand and precinct, the SAJC is entering an important period of strategic growth and delivery. This presents an opportunity for an Independent Director to contribute their experience and judgement to the Club’s long-term future.

About the role

The South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC) invites applications from experienced individuals for a position on its Board of Directors. This is a key governance role contributing to the strategic direction and long-term success of the SAJC and its iconic venue, Morphettville.

Key responsibilities

• Actively participate in Board meetings and strategic discussions

• Provide independent oversight of operations and financial performance

• Collaborate in the development of policies and strategic plans

• Monitor compliance and risk management frameworks

• Represent stakeholder interests with professionalism and integrity

• Uphold and promote ethical leadership and governance standards

About you

• Proven experience on corporate or not-for-profit boards

• Strong understanding of financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting

• Familiarity with governance frameworks and regulatory requirements

• Demonstrated risk management capability

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Commitment to ethical leadership, diversity, equity, and inclusion

• Desirable: Property development, precinct planning, infrastructure delivery, construction, asset management or related commercial property experience

• Desirable: Business acumen, commercial and strategic experience, with the ability to identify opportunities and risks, negotiate effectively and apply sound business judgement

• Desirable: Experience in complex legal matters
