The Role
As part of the Student Services team, the Student Support Officer would assist in coordinating student support programs and work collaboratively across the school community to enhance the learning, engagement and wellbeing outcomes of students. The Student Support Officer should also play a pivotal role in developing referral pathways and working in partnership with external agencies to provide coordinated support for students and their families.
Working collaboratively across the school and wider community, the Student Support Officer will develop supportive links between students, families, the school and appropriate services. This includes establishing and maintaining partnerships with government and non-government agencies, participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences, providing information and advice to staff and families, and supporting the school administration team with crisis management and response where required.
Cannington Community ESC is a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) school, with a strong commitment to trauma-informed and student-centred practice. The successful applicant will ideally possess specialist knowledge and experience in supporting young people with complex needs, including Intellectual Disability (ID), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), physical disability and trauma. Experience supporting students with co-occurring diagnoses, complex behaviours and complex communication needs is highly desirable.
The successful applicant will ideally display the ability to build trusting relationships with students and families, collaborate effectively with school staff and external professionals, and advocate for coordinated supports that promote student wellbeing, engagement, independence and successful transition beyond school.
