About the Role:Hancock Iron Ore is seeking an experienced Senior Advisor – Environment Approvals & Compliance to join our Perth-based Environment team.Reporting to the Lead Environment Approvals, Biodiversity & Compliance, you will lead the preparation and delivery of environmental approvals while supporting ongoing compliance across Hancock Iron Ore’s operations. You will provide practical advice to operational and project teams, prepare high-quality regulatory submissions, coordinate approval programs and undertake environmental compliance audits.The role has a strong focus on requirements under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) and the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA) Part IV and V, and approvals under the WA Mining Act 1978. Other skills including regulator and stakeholder liaison, experience using geospatial information systems, and EMS will be highly regarded.This opportunity will suit an environmental professional who can interpret complex regulatory requirements, manage competing priorities and build productive relationships with regulators, technical specialists and operational stakeholders. Duties: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify and deliver State and Commonwealth environmental approvals that support operational and project requirements Maintain a detailed understanding of operational plans to identify approval requirements and lead approval processes well in advance of required timeframes Develop and manage approval plans, schedules and project timelines, proactively addressing risks and keeping stakeholders informed of progress Prepare, review and submit high-quality regulatory documentation in accordance with legislative, policy and approval requirements Liaise with regulators, consultants, technical specialists and internal stakeholders to coordinate studies, spatial information and other inputs required for approval applications Interpret environmental legislation, approval conditions and permitting requirements, providing timely and practical advice to site and project personnel Support environmental compliance through audits, inspections, obligation tracking, reporting and the close-out of corrective actions Skills and experience: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or similar qualification in Environmental Management or related field Significant experience in environmental approvals, gained within a relevant consultancy and/or industry setting, including hands-on involvement in preparing a range of State and Commonwealth approvals Strong working knowledge of Western Australian environmental legislation and frameworks, particularly the Environmental Protection Act (Part IV and Part V), Mining Act, and EPBC Act Excellent report writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely Demonstrated experience in conducting environmental audits; formal audit qualifications will be highly regarded Proficiency in GIS for data management and map production Ability to read and interpret legislation, approval conditions, and regulatory requirements
