About the role 

The Data Architect will play a pivotal role in shaping Housing Australia’s enterprise data future, designing the foundations for how data is structured, integrated, governed, and consumed across the organisation. Working across the Microsoft Azure data and AI ecosystem, you will define enterprise data architectures, data models, integration patterns, and trusted data products that support decision-making, operational efficiency, and AI-driven innovation.  

This is a unique opportunity to join Housing Australia at the beginning of its data transformation journey, helping establish the Common Data Platform and the architectural foundations for scalable analytics, modern data products, and AI-enabled services. Working closely with data engineering, analytics, governance, cyber security, and business teams, you will ensure data is managed as a strategic enterprise asset, enabling secure, reusable, and future-ready solutions that deliver lasting business value. 

Key responsibilities 

• Define and maintain Housing Australia’s enterprise data architecture, including target-state data models, standards, integration patterns, and architectural roadmaps that support analytics, reporting, and AI initiatives. 
• Design scalable and secure cloud-based data solutions across the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, business priorities, governance requirements, and regulatory obligations. 
• Establish and govern data standards and frameworks, including data quality, metadata, lineage, master data, and information management practices to enable trusted and reusable data assets. 
• Provide architectural leadership and technical guidance across data, analytics, and AI initiatives, partnering with engineering, governance, cyber security, and business teams to deliver modern, future-ready data capabilities. 

Skills and experience 

• Demonstrated experience in enterprise data architecture, with a proven track record designing and implementing scalable data platforms, data models, and integration patterns in complex and regulated environments. 
• Strong expertise across the Microsoft Azure data ecosystem, including technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake, Purview, and modern cloud-based data architecture principles. 
• Deep understanding of data management and governance, including data quality, metadata, lineage, security, compliance, and enterprise data standards. 
• Experience enabling analytics and AI capabilities, including designing architectures that support data products, advanced analytics, AI use cases, and the application of AI-assisted tools within governed environments. 
• Strong technical and architectural capability, including data warehousing, ETL/ELT, real-time integration patterns, SQL, Python, and modern data engineering practices. 
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to guide technical teams, balance innovation with governance, and align data architecture with business strategy and transformation objectives. 
• Relevant qualifications in Data, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline are preferred. Microsoft Azure, TOGAF, Data Architecture, or related certifications will be highly regarded.
