Senior Civil Excavator Operator – Sydney Water Sewer, Water & Infrastructure

Hitec Drainage is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Excavator Operator to join our team delivering Sydney Water sewer, water, and civil infrastructure projects across Sydney.

We are looking for a highly skilled and reliable operator with extensive experience in civil drainage, sewer and water construction. The successful applicant will have the ability to operate confidently in complex construction environments, work safely around live services, and deliver high-quality outcomes while working closely with supervisors, plumbers, and site crews.

This role requires an operator who understands civil construction processes, can interpret site requirements, and takes pride in delivering safe, efficient, and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate excavators on Sydney Water sewer, water, and civil infrastructure projects

• Carry out detailed excavation, trenching, backfilling, service location, and pipe installation support works

• Work safely around existing underground services, live infrastructure, and confined construction areas

• Support sewer and water crews to achieve project milestones efficiently and safely

• Read and interpret plans, levels, drawings, and site instructions

• Assist with excavation planning, site set-up, and maintaining safe work practices

• Complete daily machine checks and take responsibility for the safe operation, care, and condition of plant and equipment

• Maintain excellent standards of safety, quality, and workmanship at all times

Essential Requirements

• Extensive experience operating excavators in civil construction environments

• Proven experience working on Sydney Water sewer and water infrastructure projects

• Strong understanding of sewer, water, and civil drainage construction processes

• Ability to safely excavate around underground services and existing infrastructure

• Competent understanding of trenching, shoring, pipe installation support, and civil works

• Ability to interpret plans, levels, and construction requirements

• Current White Card

• Relevant excavator operator competency/ticket

• Current NSW Driver Licence

• Ability to work independently and contribute positively within a professional site team

Desirable Experience

• Experience working alongside Sydney Water accredited supervisors, plumbers, and civil crews

• Sound knowledge of Sydney Water construction requirements and standards

• Experience with detailed excavation, pipework support, trenching, shoring, and civil infrastructure projects

• MR or HR Driver Licence

• Unmatched experience operating excavators in tight access and complex civil environments
