Deputy Principal

We are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

We are located in East Cannington, a south-eastern suburb 13 kilometres from Perth with approximately 650 students from diverse cultural backgrounds, from Kindergarten to Year 6.  We are well resourced and have numerous additional programs to support the needs of all students.

The Role

Gibbs Street PS is ideally seeking a confident, innovative Deputy Principal whose chief professional responsibility ideally is to bring evidence-based practices into classrooms by working with teachers and school leaders.

Suitable applicants will ideally require outstanding communication and interpersonal skills necessary to lead and manage staff in key school initiatives including:

• Whole school approaches to Literacy and Numeracy
• Implementation of a whole school approach to agreed lesson structure
• Data analysis of system and school assessments
• Professional Learning Team support and mentoring
• Coaching and mentoring teachers to implement whole school approaches with a focus on practical strategies for engaging students and improving their learning

Suitable applicants should have credibility with teachers and administrators, the ability to juggle several roles, and the skills needed to work one-on-one and in small groups, with teachers as well as to oversee a wider professional development effort in the school.

As the Deputy Principal you will ideally focus on practical changes teachers can make in their classrooms, supplementing this with professional development activities, and skilful mentoring of beginning teachers.  Suitable applicants will ideally need to be able to build and maintain effective relationships across the school whilst developing a clear commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth of all staff.
