About Us & the Role

Flying Fish Swim School is the Sunshine Coast’s private, purpose-built swim school — a dynamic and progressive swimming education provider dedicated to building confidence, developing strong swimming skills and creating safer swimmers of all ages.

As enthusiastic, hands-on owners, we work within the business alongside an incredible team of passionate staff. We’re proud of the genuine community we’ve created at Flying Fish, with wonderful families, enthusiastic swimmers and a team that truly cares about what they do.

We are now looking for an experienced, dedicated and energetic Learn to Swim Instructor to join our growing team.

This is a casual position offering flexible weekday hours, with classes running weekday mornings and afternoons. Saturday morning availability is essential. Additional hours may also be available across our school swimming programs.

As a Learn to Swim Instructor, you will play an important role in delivering engaging, high-quality swimming lessons to children of varying ages and abilities. You’ll teach essential swimming techniques, develop water confidence and promote lifelong water safety skills — all within a fun, positive and nurturing environment.

Our purpose-built facility includes:

• A 10m indoor heated mineral pool

• A 7m indoor heated mineral pool

• A 25m outdoor heated pool

We are looking for someone with exceptional people skills who understands the importance of building genuine connections with children, parents, fellow instructors and management. You’ll be enthusiastic, approachable, reliable and committed to creating a positive experience for every swimmer who walks through our doors.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver structured, engaging swimming lessons across junior Learn to Swim levels.

• Teach fundamental swimming skills, including water safety, water confidence, stroke development and correct swimming techniques.

• Create a safe, inclusive, encouraging and positive learning environment.

• Adapt lessons and teaching styles to meet the individual needs and abilities of swimmers.

• Manage classes effectively while maintaining high standards of supervision and safety.

• Follow all pool safety protocols, procedures and operational requirements.

• Participate in ongoing professional development and training to continually strengthen your teaching skills.

• Communicate positively and professionally with children, parents, colleagues and management.

• Be an enthusiastic and supportive team player — this is important to us!

What We’re Looking For

• A current Swimming and Water Safety Teacher qualification, or equivalent qualification recognised in Australia.

• A current Working with Children Check, blue card, or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement.

• Current First Aid and CPR certification.

• Previous experience teaching swimming to infants, children and/or young adults.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, encourage and motivate swimmers of different ages and abilities.

• The ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles and individual needs.

• Patience, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for teaching children and promoting water safety.

• An understanding of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods.

• A professional attitude and strong commitment to reliability, attendance and punctuality.

• A positive, energetic approach and a willingness to contribute to our team and swim school community.
