Afternoon Shift Fitter - Independent Cement and Lime (BPS) - Kembla Grange, NSW

We’re looking for a trade-qualified Maintenance Fitter to join our BPS team at Kembla Grange and play a key role in maintaining the reliability and performance of our plant and equipment. 

This is a hands-on role with a broad range of responsibilities across mechanical and electrical maintenance, planned and unplanned maintenance, contractor coordination, maintenance systems, spare parts, safety and continuous improvement. You’ll work closely with Operations and Site Management to identify issues, solve problems and ensure the site continues to perform at its best. 

What you'll be responsible for:

• Perform routine, preventative and unplanned maintenance activities across the facility, including mechanical and electrical maintenance, to ensure plant and equipment reliability and operational performance. 
• Ensure all maintenance and operational activities are conducted in accordance with required safety standards, procedures and legislation. 
• Conduct daily site inspections of plant, equipment and general site cleanliness, identifying and reporting issues requiring rectification, including safety, environmental and maintenance issues. 
• Work closely with the Operations team to support day-to-day problem solving, ensuring plant performance issues are addressed in a timely and effective manner. 
• Assist Site Management with the planning, development and implementation of planned maintenance activities. 
• Ensure the maintenance workshop is appropriately set up, organised and maintained, with the tools, equipment, resources and capabilities required to support site maintenance activities. 
• Manage the day-to-day operation of the Guardian maintenance system, including maintaining accurate system records, managing planned and unplanned maintenance activities, and recording spare parts usage and timing. 
• Ensure maintenance spare parts are appropriately organised, stocked and replenished to support reliable and efficient maintenance operations. 
• Undertake regular stocktakes and inventory checks of maintenance spare parts and ensure discrepancies or shortages are identified and addressed. 
• Identify and incorporate continuous improvement opportunities into maintenance and operational activities through both formal and informal improvement processes. 
• Coordinate the development and delivery of minor maintenance and improvement projects, ensuring activities are appropriately planned and completed. 
• Ensure the site is maintained in a clean, safe and orderly condition, and that all relevant environmental and safety requirements are met. 
• Safely coordinate site contractors, including contractor induction, supervision and monitoring to ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with site requirements. 
• Prepare and maintain appropriate safety documentation, including Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), isolation procedures and permits where required, to ensure a safe system of work. 
• Comply with the relevant Occupational Safety and Health requirements and all reasonable directions relating to health and safety at work. 
• Follow all company procedures and processes relating to quality, safety and the environment, and ensure the appropriate authority is obtained in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS). 
• Report quality and safety non-conformances and actively identify opportunities to improve business processes, systems and operational performance. 
• Comply with all ICL policies, procedures and requirements as amended or varied from time to time. 
• Support and contribute to a positive “One Business” culture, working collaboratively across the site and wider business. 
• Take responsibility for the effective completion of mechanical maintenance activities and contribute to the overall reliability and performance of the facility. 

What you'll bring:

• Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or a related discipline. 
• Approximately 5 years’ experience in a production, manufacturing or operations environment, ideally within a maintenance-focused role. 
• Demonstrated experience coordinating and managing contractors and operators, including providing supervision and ensuring work is completed safely. 
• Strong practical experience in mechanical maintenance, fault finding and troubleshooting. 
• Experience with maintenance management systems, ideally including Guardian or a similar computerised maintenance management system. 
• Experience supporting or managing planned and preventative maintenance programs. 
• Strong understanding and commitment to workplace health and safety, including experience with SWMS, isolation procedures and permits. 
• QA and OH&S training and a strong understanding of quality, safety and environmental requirements. 
• High level of computer literacy, with the ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and use business and maintenance systems. 
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Operations, Site Management, contractors and other stakeholders. 
• Demonstrated ability to provide supervision, leadership and direction to contractors and operators. 
• A proactive and practical approach to problem solving, with a focus on plant reliability and operational performance. 
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records, stock levels and maintenance information. 

Desirable experience:

• Experience with electrical systems, control systems and automation. 
• Experience in maintenance management or coordination. 
• Experience working in a continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing or 5S environment. 
• Experience identifying and implementing opportunities to improve plant reliability, efficiency and business processes. 
• Experience coordinating and delivering minor projects.
