About this opportunity:

Mackay Regional Council is seeking a permanent full-time Plumbing Inspector to join the Development Planning & Engineering Program.

Working under general direction, you will assess, inspect and support compliance for plumbing and drainage installations across the Mackay region, ensuring works meet legislative, safety and Council requirements.

In this role, you will:

• Assess applications, complete inspections and undertake searches relating to plumbing and drainage matters within statutory timeframes.
• Inspect and test drains and sanitary plumbing, including recording works "as constructed".
• Provide technical advice and support to applicants, plumbers, builders, architects, engineers, internal teams and members of the public.
• Liaise with stakeholders regarding enquiries relating to water supply, sewerage, trade waste and on-site sewerage installations.
• Investigate plumbing and drainage matters, applying sound judgement, problem-solving skills and best practice principles.
• Prepare reports, letters,notices and other documentation to support compliance outcomes.
• Contribute to a positive, safe and collaborative team environment that reflects Council's values of curiosity, connection, commitment, courage and care.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Current QBCC licence as a plumber and drainer.
• Current Queensland "C" Class driver's licence, or interstate equivalent.
• Backflow Prevention & Trade Waste qualifications
• Sound knowledge of relevant plumbing and drainage legislation, codes, standards, policies and procedures.
• This includes the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018, Plumbing and Drainage Regulation 2019, Plumbing Code of Australia, Queensland Plumbing and Wastewater Code and relevant Australian Standards.
• Sound experience in water supply and sewerage.
• Ability to provide technical advice on plumbing, drainage and trade waste matters.
• Ability to manage time effectively, complete inspection schedules and coordinate with other staff.
• Ability to conduct inspectorial duties, analyse technical data and interpret plans.
• Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and effective working relationships.
• Ability to manage difficult situations, clearly articulate issues, negotiate outcomes and resolve problems professionally.
• Well-developed computer skills, including the ability to use corporate systems and Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to interpret and applypolicies and procedures.
• Ability to adapt to changing work environments and conditions while maintaining a positive attitude and commitment to continuous improvement.

Desirable experience and licences include:

• Demonstrated public relations skills.
• Experience as a practising Plumbing Inspector.
• Experience in trade waste implementation and installation.
• Experience in a local government environment.
• Licence in backflow prevention, solar heat pumps, thermostatic mixing valve maintenance and on-site sewerage management.
