Based at 22–28 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda, with work at additional sites as requiredSACS Level 5 or Psychologist Grade 2, with pay point dependent on experiencePart-time, permanent position

We are seeking an experienced API Counsellor to deliver timely, accessible and high-quality psychological assessment, therapeutic counselling and follow-up support to adults, children, young people and families.

This is a valuable opportunity for a current BHN employee with strong counselling and risk assessment skills to work with people experiencing mild to moderate psychological challenges, including people who may face barriers to accessing support.

In This Role You Will

Screen and assess individuals and families seeking psychological supportDeliver evidence-based mental health assessment, treatment and therapeutic counsellingComplete comprehensive risk assessments and safety plansPlan appropriate follow-up, including transferring care or referring clients to other BHN team members and external servicesTake a holistic approach to supporting clients' health and wellbeing needs Build strong connections with local health and community services to support coordinated care and provide secondary consultation to internal and external health professionals Maintain accurate and timely assessments, case notes, client data and risk documentationContribute to the development and delivery of therapeutic group programsWork in accordance with the Accessible Psychological Interventions program guidelinesCollaborate with the Counselling team and other Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs and Gambler’s Help teamsParticipate in team activities, training, meetings and program accountability requirements.

About You

You will bring:

Registered psychologist with AHPRA or mental health certified social worker, or mental health credentialed nurseCurrent, unconditional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, or membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers and relevant mental health credentialsExperience assessing and treating adults, children and young people in a health or community setting, including people experiencing complex health concerns, mental health challenges or traumaExperience completing comprehensive assessments, including family violence risk assessment and managementStrong capability in risk assessment and safety planningExperience working in a multidisciplinary environmentKnowledge of client privacy, confidentiality and client rightsDemonstrated practice of current evidence-based approaches to individual, family and group counsellingStrong teamwork, written communication and verbal communication skillsThe ability to work within relevant professional, ethical and organisational guidelinesA current full or probationary driver’s licence.
