What does the job look like? 

We are seeking a Workers' Compensation Claims Manager to join our Self-Insurance team in Brisbane. This opportunity is ideal for someone with experience in claims, insurance, rehabilitation, legal support or case management who is looking to further develop their career in a highly regarded self-insurance environment. Reporting to the General Manager, Comcare & Commercial HR, you will manage workers' compensation claims, partner with a broad range of stakeholders, and support positive return-to-work outcomes while ensuring compliance with Comcare legislative requirements.

This role is onsite based out of Brisbane CBD.

Other duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Gather, assess and review evidence to support claim determinations, ensuring decisions are made in accordance with legislative requirements and prescribed timeframes.
• Manage a portfolio of workers' compensation claims, maintaining compliance with Comcare obligations, licence requirements and organisational KPIs.
• Communicate with injured employees throughout the claims process, managing expectations and providing guidance on claim outcomes, entitlements and next steps.
• Liaise with rehabilitation providers, medical practitioners, specialists and other service providers to support employee recovery and positive return-to-work outcomes.
• Prepare and document evidence-based decisions, maintain accurate records within the Figtree claims management system, and ensure all claims data is compliant with regulatory requirements.
• Respond to claim queries, manage reconsideration and dispute processes, support regulatory audits, and assist in managing relationships with Comcare and external stakeholders.
• Monitor claim progress, analyse case data and reporting insights, review claim-related payments and supplier invoices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance claims management outcomes and operational excellence.
• Build strong relationships with employees, managers, rehabilitation teams and external providers, monitor third-party provider performance, travel to Queensland operational sites as required, and ensure claims are managed fairly, accurately and in line with legislative obligations and performance standards.

We're looking for someone with experience in workers' compensation, insurance, injury management, rehabilitation, legal administration, case management or a similar regulated environment who enjoys building relationships and gathering information from a range of stakeholders. You'll bring a strong willingness to learn, a customer-focused approach, and a genuine passion for supporting employees through the claims and recovery process.

The ideal candidate can demonstrate: 

• Previous experience in claims management, workers' compensation, insurance, legal support, rehabilitation, case management or a similar role.
• An understanding of evidence gathering, documentation and decision-making processes.
• Exposure to regulatory, legislative or compliance-based environments.
• The ability to communicate effectively with employees, managers, medical practitioners and external providers.
• Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
• The confidence to manage sensitive conversations professionally and respectfully.
• Experience maintaining accurate records and managing competing priorities.
• Knowledge of workers' compensation, Comcare or return-to-work frameworks will be highly regarded but is not essential.
