Toro Sushi & Poke is a casual Japanese restaurant specialising in fresh sushi, poke bowls and a variety of Japanese dishes. Our menu includes sushi, bento boxes, donburi, udon, chicken katsu and other Japanese favourites. We provide dine-in, takeaway and delivery services, with a focus on fresh ingredients, quality food and efficient service.

The Role

We are looking for a full-time Cook to join our growing team. The successful candidate will have strong cooking skills, attention to detail and experience preparing Japanese cuisine in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

1. Prepare and cook a variety of Japanese dishes, including sushi, poke bowls, bento, donburi, curry, udon and other menu items.

2. Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, slicing, marinating, seasoning and portioning according to recipes and menu requirements.

3. Prepare sushi, poke bowls, sauces, dressings and other accompaniments to maintain consistent flavour and presentation.

4. Cook food using a range of methods, including grilling, frying, deep-frying, steaming, boiling and simmering.

5. Ensure all dishes are prepared consistently, maintaining high standards of quality, taste, portion size and presentation.

6. Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is cooked safely and correctly.

7. Inspect the quality and freshness of seafood, meat, vegetables and other ingredients before use.

8. Store, label and rotate food ingredients appropriately to maintain freshness, food safety and minimise waste.

9. Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, follow food safety procedures and work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient service.

Skills and Qualifications

• A relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery (Certificate III or IV) and/or equivalent practical experience in a commercial kitchen.

• Relevant experience preparing and cooking Japanese dishes, including sushi, poke bowls and other Japanese menu items.

• Sound knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, food safety, hygiene and kitchen procedures.

• Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen, maintain consistent food quality and presentation, and work effectively as part of a team.
