Asphalt Plant Batcher

About the role

Newpave Asphalt is seeking an experienced Asphalt Plant Batcher / Plant Operator to join our team at our Tomago asphalt plant. This is a key operational role responsible for producing consistent, high-quality asphalt products safely and efficiently. The successful applicant will monitor and control the batching process, coordinate production requirements and work closely with plant operators, laboratory staff, maintenance personnel, truck drivers and asphalt crews.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the asphalt batching plant and associated control systems
• Produce asphalt mixes in accordance with approved mix designs and production specifications
• Coordinate daily production schedules with supervisors, laboratory staff and asphalt crews
• Monitor aggregate, bitumen, filler and additive levels
• Complete production records, batch reports and other required documentation
• Identify and respond to plant alarms, production faults and quality concerns
• Conduct plant inspections and assist with preventative maintenance and cleaning
• Coordinate truck movements and loading activities within the plant
• Maintain effective communication with drivers, supervisors and operational teams
• Report plant defects, hazards, incidents and product non-conformances

About you

• Previous experience operating or batching an asphalt plant
• Experience in asphalt production, quarrying, concrete batching, fixed plant or a similar industry
• Sound mechanical knowledge and the ability to identify basic plant faults
• An understanding of asphalt materials, mix designs and production quality requirements
• Strong computer skills and confidence using automated plant-control systems
• Good communication, planning and recordkeeping skills
• A strong commitment to workplace safety and product quality
• The ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
• The flexibility to work day shifts, night shifts and weekends when required
• A current Australian driver licence
