Senior Cultural Heritage Officer

Key responsibilities

• Fulfil the role of cultural heritage advisor on multiple project delivery teams, providing cultural heritage advice and management services as part of the implementation of Regional programs, including the planning, design, construction and maintenance of transport infrastructure projects and associated Regional operations.
• Promote, foster and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Traditional Owner groups, concerned with the management of cultural heritage relevant to the department's interests.
• Provide information and advice to stakeholders on relevant legislation, departmental policy, procedures, and requirements for cultural heritage management.
• Undertake cultural heritage assessments and prepare reports, management plans and agreements regarding cultural heritage matters relevant to the department's interests and requirements.
• Project management and participation in cultural heritage field work including surveys, studies, monitoring and regular project inspections and audits.
• Manage cultural heritage services provided by consultants, including development of project briefs and procurement.
• Develop and implement new systems and procedures to improve cultural heritage management performance within regional operations and also within the wider Department.
• Identify, develop and deliver training packages to ensure that relevant stakeholders have an awareness of cultural heritage management requirements.
• Participate and represent the Department on various external working groups/committees.
• Work collaboratively as part of the Environment and Cultural Heritage Team and contribute to the team's identified responsibilities and behaviours.
• Undertake a mentoring and leadership role to facilitate development of team members and other officers (as necessary) within the department.

Mandatory qualifications and conditions

• Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
• Degree qualification from a recognised tertiary institute in archaeology, anthropology, cultural heritage management or an equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institute is mandatory for this position.
• Current holder of Class C driver's licence.
• Desirable: Relevant cultural heritage management experience associated with the delivery of infrastructure projects.
• Desirable: Membership of professional bodies e.g. Australian Archaeological Association (AAA)/ICOMOS, or related discipline.
• Desirable: Has/or has the ability to become an Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional (ISAP).
