About the role

Benz New Home Pty Ltd is seeking a skilled and experienced Residential Carpenter to join our team in Melbourne, VIC. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality carpentry and cabinet making solutions for our residential projects. As a Residential Carpenter, you will be instrumental in constructing, installing, and finishing carpentry work that meets our exacting standards and exceeds client expectations. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse residential projects, from custom cabinetry to structural carpentry, contributing directly to the success and reputation of Benz New Home Pty Ltd.

Key responsibilities

• Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood and wood substitutes to construct or repair structural woodwork, fixtures, and fittings

• Install doors, windows, staircases, shelving, cabinetry, and other wooden fixtures with precision and attention to detail

• Prepare surfaces and apply finishes such as stain, varnish, or paint to ensure high-quality aesthetic outcomes

• Read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure work meets design requirements

• Select appropriate materials and tools for each project, demonstrating knowledge of timber grades and wood properties

• Collaborate with other trades and project teams to ensure seamless integration of carpentry work within broader construction timelines

• Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations and company procedures

• Perform quality inspections on completed work and make any necessary adjustments or corrections

• Manage tools and equipment responsibly and contribute to site organisation and cleanliness

What we're looking for

• Formal carpentry qualifications or apprenticeship completion in carpentry or cabinet making

• Minimum of 3–5 years of proven experience in residential carpentry, including experience with custom cabinetry or joinery

• Demonstrated proficiency with hand tools and power tools commonly used in carpentry

• Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications accurately

• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering work of the highest quality

• Solid understanding of timber types, wood properties, and finishing techniques

• Physical fitness and ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and perform repetitive tasks safely

• Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with other tradespeople and site supervisors

• Valid driver's licence and reliable transport to travel between job sites

• Desirable: experience with kitchen or bathroom renovations, timber restoration, or heritage carpentry work
