Primary objective
Work with the Leadership Team to provide leadership for the planning, implementation, and review of school programs,
policies, approaches, and initiatives, as well as be an effective and collaborative member of the school’s leadership team.
Context statement
Bakewell Primary School is a large Independent Public School located in Palmerston, committed to delivering excellence in
education with a focus on positive relationships and high expectations.
The school has a current enrolment of approximately 600 students from Preschool to Year 6, with about 18% identifying as
Aboriginal, 30% who have a language background other than English, and 15% who have English as an additional language
/ dialect and thus require support to develop English language proficiency.
Key initiatives at Bakewell Primary School include Explicit Instruction pedagogical practices, explicit and structured
frameworks for both Literacy and Maths, and School Wide Positive Behaviour. Collaborative planning in teaching teams is
strongly embedded, and students have high access to digital technology devices to enhance their learning.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and effectively manage teams of staff, including supporting teams to collaborate effectively and improve their
teaching practice.
2. Support the development, implementation, and review of school policies, procedures, and improvement plans.
3. Support teachers and students with student behaviour, regulation and wellbeing.
4. Be an effective and collaborative member of the school’s leadership team.
5. Undertake an appropriate teaching load.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven teaching ability in an urban primary school context with strong understanding of explicit instruction, positive
behaviour approaches, and effective use of digital technologies.
2. Demonstrated experience in leading teams to implement school programs and initiatives, inclusive of planning, teaching,
assessment, and reporting.
3. Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with colleagues, students, parents, and the broader school
community.
4. Demonstrated capacity to develop positive and constructive relationships with staff, students, parents and other
stakeholders.
5. High level organisation skills and experience with leading projects, events, or initiatives.

The selected applicant must hold full Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory (TRB) and
a current NT Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) to obtain prior to commencement.
