About the role
Business Development Manager, Mulloon Institute/Group
Mulloon Institute (MI) is a leading not-for-profit organisation focused on restoring the health and productivity of Australian landscapes. Through research, demonstration, education and on-ground implementation, we work with landholders and communities to improve ecological function, water cycles and long-term landscape resilience. We work with landholders, rural and First Nations communities across Australia. Our work is grounded in a systems-based approach to landscape rehydration – improving natural processes to deliver environmental, social and economic outcomes at scale. Mulloon Institute has two for-purpose subsidiaries: Mulloon Consulting and Mulloon Creek Natural Farms.
Our team is a diverse group brought together by our common values and our shared commitment to repair and rehydrate Australia’s agricultural landscapes.

Full-time
Location: This is a remote, work from home role. Fully flexible organisation based out of Bungendore, NSW. Travel will be required to Home Farm at Bungendore and various locations around Australia as required.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications:
Tertiary qualifications in business, commerce, marketing, environmental management, agriculture or related field
Postgraduate qualifications in business development or related field highly regarded
Experience:
Ten years relevant experience in business development, sales, or commercial management
Demonstrated experience in a senior management, business development or commercial leadership role
Experience in environmental services, education, agriculture, or natural resource management sectors preferred
Proven track record of securing and delivering commercial projects and programs
Experience in grant writing and funding acquisition
Experience working with regulatory frameworks and government agencies
Skills:
Exceptional commercial acumen and business development skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence and negotiate effectively
Demonstrated skills in the production of high-quality proposals, business cases, and commercial documents
Strong financial literacy with ability to develop budgets, forecasts, and pricing strategies
Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Understanding of environmental education, landscape rehydration, and regenerative land management principles
Ability to assess and communicate complex regulatory and technical requirements
Strategic thinking with ability to identify and evaluate commercial opportunities
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Initiative and a flexible approach to work
Capacity to work independently and as part of an executive team
Organised and able to meet deadlines
Current driver's licence and own vehicle

Commercial Negotiation & Proposal Development
Describe your experience preparing and negotiating complex commercial proposals, contracts or funding agreements. How do you balance client needs, organisational objectives, project risk and profitability when developing commercial solutions?
Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management
Describe your experience building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders such as clients, government agencies, funding bodies, industry groups, landholders or community organisations. How have these relationships contributed to successful commercial or strategic outcomes?
Commercial Acumen & Financial Decision-Making
Describe your experience assessing the commercial viability of projects, programs or business opportunities. How do you approach pricing, budgeting, forecasting and financial decision-making to ensure sustainable and profitable outcomes?
Alignment to Purpose, Values & Executive Leadership
