About the role
Millthorpe Early Learning Centre is seeking a passionate and dedicated Cook to join our team on a part-time basis. Based in Millthorpe, NSW 2798, this role is fundamental to providing nutritious, delicious, and age-appropriate meals to the children in our care. As Cook, you will play a vital role in supporting the health, development, and wellbeing of our young learners through carefully planned and prepared meals. This position offers an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to early childhood education and care within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Key responsibilities
Plan, prepare and cook nutritious, balanced meals and snacks tailored to the dietary requirements and preferences of young children
Ensure all food preparation follows strict health and safety standards, including food hygiene, allergen management and cross-contamination prevention
Maintain accurate records of meals provided, dietary requirements, allergies and any special nutritional needs
Manage inventory, order supplies, and maintain appropriate stock levels whilst adhering to budget guidelines
Prepare meals that meet Australian dietary guidelines for early childhood services
Work collaboratively with educators and families to accommodate individual dietary needs, allergies and cultural preferences
Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen environment at all times
Support the early learning centre's commitment to sustainable practices where possible
What we're looking for
Formal culinary qualification or equivalent practical experience in food preparation and cooking for groups
Current Food Safety Supervisor certification or willingness to obtain it
Demonstrated knowledge of nutrition, food safety standards and health and hygiene practices relevant to early childhood services
Experience preparing meals for young children, with an understanding of age-appropriate portion sizes and nutritional requirements
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple meal preparations simultaneously
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with educators, families and centre management
Ability to manage dietary requirements, including allergies, intolerances and cultural or religious dietary preferences
Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one
Preferred experience in an early learning or childcare setting
