Yard Manager – Metal Recycling

QMR Recyclers is a leading metal recycling and resource recovery company, delivering efficient, safe, and sustainable recycling solutions across Queensland. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Yard Manager to oversee operations at our Rockhampton facility.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing all facets of a busy scrap metal yard, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable operations.

About the Role

Reporting to senior management, the Yard Manager will take ownership of day-to-day site operations, including staff supervision, processing activities, logistics coordination, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the recycling yard, ensuring productivity and efficiency targets are met

• Lead, supervise, and develop yard staff and operators

• Maintain high standards of safety in line with company and legislative requirements

• Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics, including transport and material flow

• Manage stock control, segregation, and processing of scrap materials

• Ensure plant and equipment are maintained and operated effectively

• Liaise with customers, suppliers, and contractors

• Drive continuous improvement across operations and processes

About You

• Minimum 5+ years’ experience in the metal recycling industry (preferred)

• Proven experience in a supervisory or management role

• Strong knowledge of scrap metal grading, processing, and market dynamics

• Solid understanding of workplace health & safety requirements

• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability
