About the Opportunity

• Part-time permanent position, 3 days per week minimum
• SCHADS 2 $36.22 base per hour + Salary packaging up to $18,550 (pay less tax) + Super + Penalty rates
• Based in Carlingford, NSW

Uniting’s HASI Plus program in Carlingford is seeking compassionate and motivated Mental Health Support Workers to join our specialist recovery-focused team on a part-time basis working across the following shift times:

AM Shift: 6:30am to 3:00pm

PM Shift: 2:30pm to 11:00pm

Active Overnight Shift: 10:30pm to 7:00am

Make a meaningful difference in the lives of people transitioning from long-term mental health care into community living.

Working within a shared model of care, you’ll support consumers living in self-contained units across two sites, helping them build confidence, develop practical life skills and work towards the recovery goals that matter most to them. Every day is different, with a balance of direct consumer support, collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and opportunities to make a genuine impact on someone’s recovery journey.

Your day will include participating in handover, reviewing the shared calendar, completing medication observations alongside a colleague, supporting consumers in the community, and contributing to a safe, supportive and recovery-oriented environment. You’ll also benefit from regular team meetings, operational supervision and group clinical supervision as part of a highly supportive team culture.

About the Role

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you’ll work alongside consumers to support their individual recovery goals and promote independence, choice and community participation.

• Supporting consumers to identify, work towards and achieve their personal recovery goals.
• Assisting consumers to attend appointments
• Building confidence with everyday living skills such as cooking, meal planning, budgeting and maintaining a home.
• Encouraging participation in meaningful activities and supporting connections with local community groups, services and social opportunities.
• Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide consistent, person-centred support.
• Completing accurate documentation to record progress, outcomes and support provided.
• Supporting medication observations in line with program procedures.

About Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) Plus

This role is part of the Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) Plus, a statewide, high-intensity transitional rehabilitation program.

HASI Plus supports adults aged 18–65 living with severe mental illness and complex support needs who are transitioning from extended hospital care into the community. Through a recovery-oriented, strengths-based approach, we support consumers to build the skills, confidence and resilience needed to live as independently as possible within their own homes.

Our multidisciplinary team includes Occupational Therapists, Diversional Therapists, an Exercise Physiologist, Clinical Lead, Administration Support, Local Health District Case Managers and more than 30 dedicated Mental Health Support Workers, all working together to provide coordinated, person-centred care.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, proactive and genuinely passionate about supporting people living with complex mental health needs to achieve meaningful recovery.

You’ll bring

• A minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health or Community Services.
• Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling will also be considered.
• Experience working within mental health, psychosocial support or community services.
• A current unrestricted Australian driver’s licence.
• An understanding of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and person-centred practice.
• The ability to think on your feet, assess situations and respond appropriately.
• Confidence to take initiative, escalate concerns when required and contribute positively to consumer wellbeing.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to documentation.
• Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm in dynamic environments.
