About the role
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker (Identified) plays a critical role in delivering culturally safe, family-centred maternity services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, babies and families. Working across the antenatal, birthing, postnatal and early parenting journey, the role supports families through culturally informed care, advocacy, health education and care coordination while promoting positive health and wellbeing outcomes.
The successful candidate will work closely with midwives and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to provide culturally safe support, strengthen health literacy, assist with navigating the health system and advocate for the needs of families. The role also contributes to cultural education, community engagement, health promotion activities and the development of strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and service providers.
