POSITION OVERVIEW

Bistro Sol is seeking an experienced and passionate full-time Chef to join its kitchen team and support the ongoing operations of the restaurant. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing and cooking a variety of dishes while maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation and consistency. This role requires strong culinary skills, knowledge of food safety requirements, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment. The Chef will work closely with management and kitchen staff to develop menu items, coordinate food preparation activities and ensure smooth daily kitchen operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Preparing, cooking and presenting high-quality meals in accordance with restaurant standards and customer expectations.
• Planning and developing menu items while considering seasonal availability, customer preferences and operational requirements.
• Preparing ingredients including cleaning, cutting, portioning and seasoning meat, seafood, vegetables and other food products.
• Monitoring food preparation and cooking processes to ensure consistency, quality and presentation standards are maintained.
• Ensuring all meals are prepared and served within required timeframes during service periods.
• Supervising and coordinating kitchen staff to ensure efficient workflow and smooth kitchen operations.
• Maintaining stock levels, monitoring food supplies and assisting with ordering ingredients and kitchen requirements.
• Inspecting the quality of ingredients and ensuring proper storage, handling and rotation of food products.
• Ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, hygiene standards and workplace health and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintaining a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment at all times.
• Managing portion control and minimising food wastage through effective preparation and inventory management.
• Assisting with menu improvements, recipe development and introducing new dishes where required.
• Training and supporting junior kitchen staff in food preparation techniques and kitchen procedures.
• Coordinating with front-of-house staff to ensure timely and accurate meal service.
• Maintaining professional standards and contributing to a positive and productive kitchen culture.

Skill & Experience

• A relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or Hospitality.
• 3–4 years of experience working in a commercial kitchen, including at least 1 year working specifically as a Chef in a restaurant, café or similar commercial kitchen environment.
• Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods and kitchen operations.
• Understanding of food safety standards, hygiene practices and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and a commitment to food quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a kitchen team.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
