Enrolled Nurses - AOD & Mental Health

• 2 x Permanent/part-time (0.6 FTE & 0.8 FTE) opportunities for experienced AOD ENs to support residents at a 24/7 AOD Rehabilitation Facility.

Maryknoll Therapeutic Community is a 77-bed facility that provides a safe space for residents to recover and heal by exploring their own life experiences and learning from the experience and insights of others.

Working under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, the Enrolled Nurse, works collaboratively with all members of the clinical team within and outside of Windana and contributes to the nursing care of clients by providing assessment and treatment to residents.

• Contribute to admission process, treatment planning, treatment program delivery and discharge process to ensure clients have a safe and effective experience in Windana's care.
• Conduct nursing physical assessments, noting any pre-existing medical conditions and their treatment and monitor these conditions throughout the Residents stay.
• Conduct a mental state examination, noting any pre-existing mental health comorbidities and seek referral to specialist intervention if the client becomes unwell while in withdrawal.
• Work collaboratively with the relevant GP pre/post admission and any other allied health professionals as required.
• Check the prescribed medications ordered by the Registered Nurse and ensure that scripts and medication charts are provided to pharmacy in a timely manner for packaging and dispensing.
• Administer medications according to the prescriptions and orders on the medication charts, observing the clinical features and ensuring the medications are having the desired effect.
• Evaluate responses to treatment and report to the treating doctor or registered nurse, any new information, changes in condition, or concerns regarding vital signs and withdrawal symptoms, which might indicate the need for a review of the treatment plan.
• Contribute to the development of client individual treatment and recovery plans, involving nominated significant others and family where relevant.
• Support the client to manage problematic emotional difficulties and teaching and role modelling coping strategies to manage distress.
• Coordinate discharge plans and referrals to other service providers, ensuring discharge summaries are completed and provided to the client’s regular GP.

What we're looking for:

• 2+ years of practical experience working as an Enrolled Nurse within the alcohol and drug sector, mental health or other primary health care environment.
• Ability to support and work with vulnerable people and people with complex needs.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting drug and alcohol withdrawal and physical assessments.
• Knowledge and understanding of withdrawal management and Post-Acute Withdrawal Symptoms.
• Applied understanding of contemporary standards and evidence-based practice and interventions in AOD context.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with a natural ability to communicate effectively to a diverse group of people.
• Current registration as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2) within the Australian Health Practitioner.
• Diploma in Nursing & completion of 4 AOD core competencies, or willingness to work towards core competencies during employment within a 12-month period.
