About the role
We are seeking a highly professional, motivated and enthusiastic Motor Mechanic to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis at our Campbellfield workshop.
This is a hands-on role servicing and repairing light petrol and diesel vehicles. The bulk of the work is regular logbook servicing and general mechanical repairs, so we are looking for someone who is efficient, consistent and thorough on routine work. Beyond that, we place high regard on mechanics with proven engine and transmission replacement and rebuild experience — that capability will be reflected in where you sit within the salary range.
You will work alongside an experienced team in a well-equipped workshop, with the tooling, diagnostic equipment and support you need to do the job properly.
Carry out scheduled and logbook servicing on light petrol and diesel vehicles, including oil and filter changes, fluid checks, lubrication and tune-ups
Diagnose and repair faults in engines, drivetrains, brakes, suspension, steering, cooling and exhaust systems
Use computerised diagnostic equipment to fault-find electronic and engine management systems
Disassemble and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and related components for inspection
Repair, recondition and replace worn or defective components in accordance with manufacturer service manuals and specifications
Perform engine and transmission removals, replacements and reinstallations
Reassemble engines and components following repair, and road test to confirm correct performance
Ensure vehicles meet emissions and regulatory requirements
Conduct vehicle inspections and issue roadworthiness certificates, or advise on the work required to achieve roadworthiness
Provide accurate time and parts estimates, and clear explanations of required work
Maintain accurate service records and job documentation
Keep the workshop clean, organised and compliant with all workplace health and safety requirements
Diploma of Automotive Technology (AQF Diploma level), or an AQF Certificate III or IV in Automotive Mechanical Technology — Light Vehicle (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
Completed Job Ready Program (JRP) through Trades Recognition Australia
Minimum 2 years' post-qualification, on-the-job experience as a motor mechanic
Demonstrated competence servicing and repairing both petrol and diesel light vehicles
Confident use of computerised diagnostic tools and scan equipment
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship
Sound written and verbal communication skills
Current Australian driver's licence
Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Proven experience removing, replacing and rebuilding engines and transmissions (manual and automatic)
Timing belt and timing chain replacement experience
Diesel injection, turbocharger and DPF diagnostics
Auto-electrical fault-finding capability
Victorian Licensed Vehicle Tester (LVT) accreditation, or eligibility to obtain it
Air conditioning (ARC) licence
Own set of trade tools
Competitive salary of $80,000 – $90,000 per year plus superannuation, negotiable based on experience and capability
Permanent full-time position with a stable, established business
Modern, well-equipped workshop
Ongoing training and professional development
Supportive team environment with genuine career progression
Employer-sponsored visa options may be available for suitably qualified candidates
If you meet the criteria above, click Apply and submit your resume together with copies of your qualifications and evidence of your completed Job Ready Program. Please outline your experience with engine and transmission work in your application.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Applicants must be willing to undergo a pre-employment reference check.
