REFOCUS is seeking a Kinship Care Support Practitioner to join our Supporting Kin program and provide ongoing support to approved kinship carers, helping create safe, stable, and nurturing environments for children and young people.

This role works in partnership with kinship carers, children, families, Child Safety, and community partners to strengthen carer capability, support placement stability, and promote positive outcomes for children and young people.

About the role

As a Kinship Care Support Practitioner, you will:

• Provide ongoing support to approved kinship carers throughout their caring journey
• Build collaborative and trusting relationships with carers
• Deliver coaching, mentoring, guidance, and practical support to strengthen carer capability
• Participate in case planning and care team meetings
• Coordinate referrals to therapeutic, specialist, and community services
• Advocate for the needs of children, young people, and carers
• Support carers through review and renewal processes
• Assist carers to maintain approval requirements, clearances, and documentation
• Provide practical and emotional support during periods of stress, crisis, or placement transition
• Promote culturally safe, strengths-based, and trauma-informed practice
• Support children’s identity, culture, and lifelong family connections
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and case documentation

This role requires strong relationship-building skills, sound judgement, and a commitment to child-centred practice that supports positive outcomes for children, young people, and families.

Pay and conditions

Permanent part-time position

Hourly pay rates range from:

Level 1 PPT3 $30.90 per hour, up to Level 3 PPT4 $52.93 per hour

Classification level and pay rate are assessed and determined based on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated capability.

• Demonstrates strong advocacy, communication, and collaboration skills
• Understands trauma-informed, family-centred, and strengths-based practice
• Is organised, proactive, and confident coordinating supports and services
• Values cultural safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Can work effectively with Child Safety and multidisciplinary partners

Qualifications and experience

• Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Behavioural Science, Community Services, or a related discipline
• Experience supporting children, young people, and families within child protection, out-of-home care, or related human services
• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with carers, families, and service providers
• Experience in case coordination and multidisciplinary practice
• Experience supporting kinship or foster carers is highly desirable
• Knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld), permanency planning, and out-of-home care systems is highly desirable
• Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and communities is highly regarded

• Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
• Criminal History Check
• Ability to meet REFOCUS compliance and reporting requirements
• Current Queensland Driver Licence
• Ability to work within the 10 Child Safe Standards
