Youth and Family Worker

Permanent Part Time, 25 hours per week

Location: Parkes, NSW

Neighbourhood Central is a community-based organisation dedicated to supporting families, youth, and individuals to achieve their goals and strengthen community connections.

We are seeking a passionate Youth and Family Worker to provide practical and emotional support to families and young people, including those experiencing domestic and family violence. This role involves case management, outreach services (including home visits), referrals, youth group facilitation, and collaboration with local services to deliver programs that promote wellbeing and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess client needs and provide practical and emotional support for challenges such as parenting, child development, domestic and family violence, and navigating social services.

• Provide outreach services, including home visits, to ensure accessible support.

• Apply trauma-informed care principles in all interactions to ensure services are safe, respectful, and empowering.

• Facilitate or co-facilitate group programs (e.g., youth groups).

• Maintain accurate records, case notes, and reports.

• Build strong partnerships with community services and networks.

• Ensure services are culturally appropriate and inclusive for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and CALD families.

Key Selection Criteria

1. Relevant qualifications in welfare or a related field, or experience supporting families with complex needs. E.g. working with families, youth, and vulnerable individuals, particularly those impacted by domestic and family violence, separation, or conflict.

2. Solid understanding of child protection principles and trauma-informed practice, along with knowledge of family support frameworks and local community services. Ability to deliver group programs and community events.

3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage families, maintain professional boundaries, and build positive relationships while ensuring accurate reporting.

4. Ability to manage caseloads, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines while confidently using client management systems.

5. Demonstrated commitment to Neighbourhood Central’s values and principles, along with knowledge of and compliance with relevant legislation. E.g., Child Safe Standards, and privacy requirements.

6. Valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) and driver’s licence, and willingness to travel regularly within the region.
