About the Role
We have a Full-Time permanent position on offer reporting to the District Director, Clinical Acute Services.
Reporting to the District Director, this role provides strategic and cultural leadership across the Clinical Acute Services, with a strong focus on delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed and person-centred care. The role drives initiatives that promote health equity, strengthen Aboriginal health outcomes and build meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, consumers, communities and key stakeholders across MNCLHD sites and services.
The position provides senior cultural leadership and support to Aboriginal staff, departmental leads and direct reports, while developing and monitoring performance measures that embed culturally safe practice and support high-quality service delivery. The role also provides strategic advice to senior leadership on cultural safety, emerging risks and mitigation strategies through a risk management lens.
A key component of the role is leading consumer and community engagement, including committees, forums and co-design processes, to ensure Aboriginal people and communities have a meaningful voice in shaping accessible, culturally safe and responsive health services. Through strong partnerships, cultural leadership and a commitment to health equity, the role supports the organisation to strengthen outcomes and create services that are safe, inclusive and responsive to the needs of the communities it serves.
About Clinical Acute Services Directorate
The Clinical Acute Services Directorate (CASD) within Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) is a new directorate responsible for the delivery of a broad range of acute, inpatient, and emergency care services across the district’s seven hospitals, including Port Macquarie Base Hospital and Coffs Harbour Health Campus. The Directorate provides high-quality, patient-centred care across Emergency Departments, inpatient medical and surgical services, critical care, and key specialist services that support timely access and effective patient flow.
About You
Are you an experienced Aboriginal health leader who can bring cultural leadership, strategic thinking and a strong focus on health equity to a complex health service environment. You are an Aboriginal Australian health professional and experienced leader with a strong understanding of Aboriginal Health and the systemic, cultural and social factors that influence the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people and can bring a combination of cultural knowledge, strategic leadership, operational experience and data driven decision-making to support meaningful and sustainable improvements in Aboriginal health outcomes.
You will have demonstrated experience working across complex and diverse service environments, managing sensitive cultural situations and risks, and providing strategic advice that considers safety, quality, financial and broader health system priorities. You are confident in translating organisational strategy into practical action, driving service improvement and developing performance measures that strengthen accountability and deliver measurable outcomes. A key strength you will bring is the ability to use Aboriginal Health data and performance information to identify gaps, monitor outcomes and influence improvement.

This includes reporting against Aboriginal Health access, activity and quality measures, including relevant NSW Health Service Level Agreement and government reporting requirements. You will be a strong communicator who can develop high level written reports, prepare executive briefings and confidently communicate complex information to a range of stakeholders.
As an identified Aboriginal position, you will bring lived cultural knowledge and a genuine commitment to ensuring Aboriginal people receive culturally safe, trauma informed, accessible and person-centred care as well as being passionate about strengthening Aboriginal leadership, improving health equity and ensuring Aboriginal voices are embedded in the planning, delivery and evaluation of health services.
