About the role
We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist, for a permanent position as a Mental Health Triage Clinician.
You will be based at the University in Sydney's CBD. Working hours are Monday to Friday, business hours. The role is mostly onsite (1 day work from home possible).
The Mental Health Triage Clinician (internally called Triage Centre Clinician) plays an important role within the University Psychology & Wellness Service.
This role supports students to access timely, appropriate, and compassionate mental health care. You will manage intake and triage processes, conduct mental health and risk assessments, provide brief evidence-based interventions, and help students navigate the most suitable support pathways within the university or externally.
Working closely with students, referrers, and service providers, you will deliver a trauma-informed and culturally responsive intake experience, ensuring students feel supported, respected, and connected to the care they need. The role also supports continuity of care through coordinated referrals, warm transitions, and follow-up for students presenting with elevated risk or distress. You will also play a key role in responding to student risk concerns during business hours and coordinating follow-up actions for after-hours incidents.
This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Team Lead, Mental Health Connect.
About you
You are a compassionate and experienced mental health clinician who values student wellbeing and understands the challenges students may experience while undertaking university study. You bring sound clinical judgement, great communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and supportive environment.
You will also have:
Full and current AHPRA registration as a Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist, or Registered Nurse (ACMHN Credentialed), or Occupational Therapist (BAMH Endorsement), or Social Worker (AASW Accredited)
Substantial post registration experience working within a relevant mental health clinical setting, conducting mental health and risk assessment
A strong understanding of triage processes and risk assessment, ideally in a tertiary education setting
Demonstrated competence in assessment and clinical interventions that are trauma-informed and culturally appropriate with individuals of different ages and backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to provide consultation, advice, and support to key stakeholders, including family members, primary carers, academic teaching staff, and other internal/external support services, whilst confidently balancing safety and confidentiality.
