About the role
The Ginninderry Conservation Trust is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to conserving and enhancing riverine landscapes, threatened species, and ecosystems along the Murrumbidgee River Corridor in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Established in 2018 as part of the award winning Ginninderry sustainable community development, the Trust currently manages a 280 hectare conservation corridor that protects biodiversity, cultural heritage, and environmental health. The Corridor will expand to approximately 600 hectares as the urban development expands. Through partnerships with government, private sector, and local communities - including strong collaboration with Traditional Custodians - we deliver programs in ecological restoration, research, education, and community engagement. Our work includes flora and fauna surveys, weed management, water monitoring, and cultural tours, all aimed at fostering harmony between urban development and nature conservation.
The Trust has a position available within our Caring for Country team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a small, dedicated team of Aboriginal Rangers managing and caring for country in this beautiful location on the western edge of the ACT. The position is supported by an Indigenous Rangers Program Expansion grant provided by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (Commonwealth Government). This is a female Aboriginal identified position.
The successful applicant will work outside, in varying weather conditions, in the Ginninderry Conservation Corridor. The Corridor currently comprises 280 hectares of Grassy Box Woodland, Callitris Forest and Natural Temperate Grassland along the Murrumbidgee River, in West Belconnen ACT and will extend to approximately 600 hectares across ACT and NSW in future years. You will be learning on Country about the unique ecological, landscape and cultural values of the Conservation Corridor.
You will also be enrolled into the Conservation and Ecosystem Management Certificate III course with CIT and undertake the following training:
This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work closely and collaboratively with the Conservation Trust team. You will be working as part of a small team of Aboriginal Field Officers actively managing and caring for Country.
