Your Role

An exciting role exists to join the team at Catholic Education Office in the position of HR Officer, for immediate commencement. This is a full-time continuing position, based in Rockhampton. 

The role presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced Human Resources professional to contribute to effective employment practices across our schools and colleges. Working as part of a collaborative team, the role provides the opportunity to apply and further develop expertise across a broad range of recruitment, employment, compliance and employee lifecycle processes in support of Catholic education. 

The successful applicant will have well-developed administrative and organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities, while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. They will bring demonstrated experience in human resources and a sound understanding of employment legislation, awards, industrial agreements, recruitment practices and employee records management, together with a commitment to providing responsive, accurate and professional support to employees and stakeholders. 

The position is responsible for supporting employment and staffing processes, working closely with payroll in meeting fortnightly pay deadlines, preparing employment-related correspondence and documentation, maintaining accurate employee records, and responding to stakeholder enquiries, while ensuring compliance with CEDR policies, procedures and legislative requirements. 

Typical duties include, but are not limited:

• Provide accurate and detailed advice and information to relevant stakeholders on CEDR employment procedures and policies.
• Contribute to an effective employment process, including applicant engagement and processing of appointments in line with current legislation and industry standards utilising substantial HR knowledge and understanding. 
• Prepare letters of appointment for teaching staff of CEDR, ensuring accuracy and adherence to HR guidelines. 
• Check and process ancillary appointment documents received from schools and colleges, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and guidelines. 
• On behalf of the Diocesan Director prepare, draft and generate employment correspondence for CEDR staff, including but not limited to, letters of acknowledgement for applications for leave, resignations and other correspondence as required.  
• Provide accurate and timely advice in relation to leave entitlements, ensuring that leave applications are within set guidelines.
• Provide a client focussed service in response to employment related enquiries providing professional and policy advice.
• Facilitate effective communication with Principals, school staff and CEDR personnel on staffing, leave and employment issues, coordinating competing personnel requests and demands.
• Ensure compliance of new and existing employees relating to Qld College of Teacher Registration, Working with Children Checks and other mandatory requirements.

About you

The successful applicant will have:

• An understanding of, and a commitment to, the values of Catholic Education.
• Strong administrative skills, with experience in human resources.
• The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive employee information.
• Experience in using payroll and HR information systems, such as CHRIS21, and Microsoft Office applications, or the demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems. 
• Knowledge of HR and payroll processes, employment conditions, awards and industrial agreements.
• Excellent organisational, communication and service-oriented skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. 
• The ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, with a flexible approach and commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
• Appropriate experience or other relevant Human Resource qualifications and experience which are applicable to the role would be beneficial.

• A current valid Blue Card under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (WWC Act) and valid Suitability Notice is a requirement of the position.
