Commercial Lawyer — Building & Construction

About the role

A commercial lawyer role with genuine interest in building and construction law, joining Law Team Build as it grows. You'll work across commercial and property matters with a construction lean — think development agreements, building contracts, security of payment, and the disputes that come with all of it — while helping shape this new part of the firm alongside existing builder and developer clients.

Key responsibilities

• Advising builders, developers and commercial clients on construction contracts, development agreements and related disputes

• Working across NSW building and construction legislation — Home Building Act warranties, security of payment, DBP Act duty of care and similar

• Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, including options, JVs and profit-share arrangements on development deals

• Helping shape Law Team Build during its pilot phase — from client experience to how we productise our advice

• Contributing to a preventative, plain-English approach to client work

• Working closely with the existing team on broader commercial and property matters as needed

About you

• 5+ years PQE in commercial and/or property law, with meaningful exposure to building and construction matters

• Confident, practical drafting skills and sound commercial judgement

• A genuine interest in construction law and where the industry is heading

• Comfortable working independently and remotely, with strong self-management

• A collaborative, no-ego approach — flexibility and initiative matter as much as technical skill

• Alignment with a plain-English, client-first way of practising law

We're plain-English, preventative and genuinely on our clients' side — we'd rather stop a problem before it starts than bill by the hour cleaning one up. We're a close, hybrid team of around 20, and we back that up with the systems, training and culture to match. Right now we're building out Law Team Build — a dedicated arm for building, construction and development law.
