Trainee Laboratory Technician – Asphalt Testing Laboratory

Pavement Technology Centre (PTC) is a leading pavement testing laboratory providing laboratory and field testing services to the asphalt construction industry. We are seeking a motivated and reliable Trainee Laboratory Technician to join our growing team.

This is an entry-level position, and no previous experience is required. We provide comprehensive on-the-job training, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in laboratory testing and the civil construction industry.

As a Trainee Laboratory Technician, you will work in both our laboratory and on construction sites, learning to perform a range of tests on asphalt and pavement materials while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and safety.

This is a casual position with the opportunity to progress to a permanent full-time role for capable and committed employees.

• Perform laboratory testing on asphalt and pavement materials.

• Prepare, and process test samples.

• Accurately record, analyse, and report test results.

• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a clean and safe work environment.

• Assist with field testing and sample collection at construction sites.

• Follow laboratory procedures, quality systems, and safety requirements.

• Communicate professionally with clients, site supervisors, and team members.

• Completed Year 12 or hold a Certificate or Diploma in Laboratory Techniques or a related field (preferred but not essential).

• Hold a current Australian driver's licence (essential).

• Possess good mathematical and problem-solving skills.

• Have excellent attention to detail and a willingness to learn.

• Be physically fit and capable of manual handling.

• Be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

• Be confident working independently on construction sites after training.

• Have good communication and interpersonal skills.

• Be willing to work occasional night shifts and weekends when required.
