People, Culture and Safety Business Partner

About the Opportunity

Join NT PHN in a People and Culture role where you will provide specialist advice and expertise across contemporary human resources practices, employment legislation, organisational policy and employee relations.

The People, Culture and Safety Business Partner supports the effective delivery of NT PHN’s People and Culture function, helping to ensure our practices are legally compliant, aligned with organisational values and responsive to workforce needs. Working closely with the People, Culture and Safety Manager, leaders and employees across the organisation, you will contribute to a safe, inclusive and high-performing workplace while leading projects that strengthen workforce capability and engagement.

This role also provides mentorship and support to other People, Culture and Safety team members, helping to ensure the consistent and seamless delivery of People, Culture and Safety activities across the organisation.

About You

You are an experienced People and Culture professional who can balance strategic thinking with responsive, practical support. You bring broad generalist experience, sound knowledge of employment legislation and the confidence to advise stakeholders on complex or sensitive workplace matters.

You are organised, collaborative and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage competing priorities, lead projects and communicate clearly with employees, managers and senior leaders.

You will bring:

• Knowledge or training equivalent to a relevant bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field, and/or an extensive equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training.
• Membership of the Australian HR Institute (AHRI) and Certified HR Practitioner (CPHR) accreditation would be considered advantageous but are not essential requirements for the role.
• Comprehensive generalist People and Culture experience, supported by strong working knowledge of industrial and workplace legislation, practices and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to provide considered and practical advice on complex People, Culture and Safety and employee relations matters.
• Experience leading organisational change and People and Culture projects.
• Experience developing and implementing People, Culture and Safety policies, procedures and strategies.
• Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work under pressure and complete critical tasks accurately within required timeframes.
• Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to deliver contemporary, fit-for-purpose and timely outcomes.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
• The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team in an environment subject to change.
• Initiative, sound judgement and a commitment to continuous quality improvement

About the Role

The People, Culture and Safety Business Partner works closely with the People, Culture and Safety Manager to support the effective operation of NT PHN’s People, Culture and Safety function. The role provides specialist advice to stakeholders, supports the development and implementation of People, Culture and Safety strategies and contributes to a safe, compliant and positive working environment.

Key priorities include:

• Supporting the oversight of NT PHN’s People, Culture and Safety function, ensuring practices are aligned with organisational policies, legislative requirements and contemporary practice.
• Providing specialist guidance to stakeholders on employment legislation, award interpretation and the application of organisational policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Providing mentorship, leadership and role modelling to People, Culture and Safety team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
• Managing first-level grievances, workplace investigations, disciplinary processes and other employee relations matters in a fair, professional and procedurally sound manner.
• Reviewing and updating organisational policies to ensure they remain current, relevant and legally compliant.
• Supporting the development and implementation of People, Culture and Safety strategies and initiatives.
• Working collaboratively with the People, Culture and Safety Manager to support compliance with work health and safety requirements and promote a safe and healthy working environment.
• Managing workers’ compensation claims, including documentation, communication and coordination throughout the claims process.
• Designing and implementing People, Culture and Safety project plans, including defining project scope, objectives, deliverables and measures of success.
• Monitoring project progress, proactively addressing challenges and evaluating outcomes against agreed success criteria.
• Preparing and presenting project updates to the People, Culture and Safety Manager and other senior leaders.
• Providing responsive and ongoing support to the People, Culture and Safety team to help ensure the effective delivery of People, Culture and Safety services and organisational priorities.
• Working respectfully and inclusively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from diverse backgrounds.
• Identifying opportunities for innovation, service improvement and positive workplace culture
