Branch Commercial Manager

The Role

The Electromagnetic Warfare Intelligence Systems (EWIS) Branch is seeking an experienced and motivated Commercial Manager to lead commercial, procurement and contract management outcomes across a strategically significant capability environment.

As the EL 1 Branch Commercial Manager, you will provide expert commercial advice to three Systems Program Offices (SPOs) and the Branch Executive, delivering solutions to complex procurement and commercial issues while ensuring compliance with Commonwealth and Defence policy, legislative and procurement frameworks. You will identify and manage commercial risks, balancing risk, opportunity and business outcomes.

The role oversees governance of the Branch's Standing Offer Panels and Major Service Provider arrangements, ensuring they remain compliant, effective and responsive to business needs.

Leading a small team in a dynamic environment, you will build strong relationships with Defence and industry stakeholders, support informed decision-making, and contribute to the delivery of capability outcomes through effective commercial leadership and sound judgement.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a motivated and collaborative professional with strong commercial and procurement experience who can deliver quality outcomes in a complex operating environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Experience managing procurement and commercial activities across the procurement and contract management lifecycle.
• Sound knowledge of Commonwealth Procurement Rules, Defence procurement policies and contract management principles.
• The ability to provide accurate, timely and practical commercial advice to stakeholders and support informed decision-making.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive working relationships across Defence and industry.
• Sound judgement, initiative and the ability to identify risks and implement practical mitigation strategies.
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare briefs, reports and procurement documentation.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a high-tempo environment.

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting level 2".
