About the Role

With direct access to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, 14 event spaces, a Level 12 Rooftop, and hundreds of guest rooms, no two days look the same for our Facilities & Maintenance team at Rydges South Bank.

We're looking for a hands-on Handyperson to help keep this landmark hotel running safely and smoothly, from everyday repairs to preventive maintenance across the building.

No previous trade experience or qualifications are required - this is a great entry point into a trades career, and would suit someone studying, or interested in studying, a trade qualification through TAFE or a similar institution. This is a full-time (38 hours per week) role reporting to the Maintenance Manager, working alongside a supportive team who'll help you build real, practical skills on the job.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out hands-on repairs and maintenance across guest rooms, public areas, and event spaces.
• Provide painting services as needed across the hotel.
• Monitor and maintain mechanical equipment, keeping everything running as it should.
• Respond promptly to staff and guest repair requests, resolving issues with minimal disruption to their day.
• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance programs as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
• Collaborate with other departments to support smooth day-to-day hotel operations.
• Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and hotel policies.
• Maintain a positive, professional approach in all guest and staff interactions.

What You'll Bring

• No previous trade experience or formal qualifications required - a genuine interest in trades and a willingness to learn is what counts most.
• Ideal for someone studying, or considering studying, a trade qualification through TAFE or a similar institution.
• A practical mindset and willingness to get hands-on with basic plumbing, carpentry, and painting tasks.
• Effective time management and the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Solid understanding of Workplace Health & Safety procedures.
• Flexibility to work a 7-day rotating roster.
