About the role
Project Manager
Richard Field Constructions (Field Construct) is an energetic, team-focused commercial builder delivering quality projects across Far North Queensland. We are looking for our next long-term team member: an experienced Project Manager who takes pride in doing things properly, wants to lead significant commercial projects, work with an outstanding construction team, and build a long-term career with a respected local contractor.
· Lead the successful delivery of commercial construction projects valued up to $20 million, from pre-construction through to handover.
· Build, coordinate and motivate project teams comprising site management, subcontractors, suppliers and direct labour to consistently achieve programme, budget and quality outcomes.
· Develop procurement strategies, negotiate and let subcontract packages, and build strong relationships with key trade partners.
· Manage head contracts, subcontract administration, progress claims, variations, cash flow forecasting and monthly financial performance.
· Prepare and maintain realistic construction programmes that keep all stakeholders aligned and projects on track.
· Work collaboratively with clients, consultants and authorities to resolve design and construction challenges before they impact delivery, whilst enhancing all relationships.
· Identify project risks early, develop practical mitigation strategies and maintain a proactive approach to problem solving.
· Drive quality outcomes by ensuring workmanship meets specification, company standards and client expectations.
· Support tendering activities by providing construction methodology, programming and delivery input that helps win future work.
· Mentor Contracts Administrators, Site Managers and emerging project staff to strengthen the business for the future.
· Champion safe work practices and full compliance with legislative, contractual and quality requirements.
· Work alongside an experienced team of around 30 company members, including the Director, Construction Manager, Estimating Manager, Estimators, Project Managers, Contracts Administrator, Site Managers, Foremen, Leading Hands, Carpenters, Apprentices and Labourers. We are large enough to be a Cairns industry leader, yet small enough for everyone to know each other by name.
· Diverse work across a broad range of industry sectors throughout Far North Queensland. You will not be bored — our projects are interesting, challenging and varied.
· Job security, genuine team culture and career progression. People come here and stay, and we invest in our people for the long term.
· Competitive salary package of $120,000–$200,000 plus, reflecting your experience.
· Easy to access. Heaps of free on-site parking, plus easy access to public transport.
· A safe workplace. We take the wellbeing of our team seriously, and our work processes are designed with safety as a top priority.
· Bright, spacious and modern facilities, including an espresso coffee machine. Our office food culture is regular and impressive.
· A proudly family-owned business celebrating 20 years, with the stability, local knowledge and relationships that come from two decades in the Cairns construction industry.
· Relevant building qualification or trade background with proven experience delivering medium-sized commercial construction projects.
· Able to bring together consultants, subcontractors and site teams to achieve successful outcomes across pre-construction, structure, services, fit-off and handover.
· Commercially astute with strong budgeting, forecasting and contract administration skills.
· Confident using Microsoft Project, Word and Excel, with the ability to learn CSSP budgeting software.
· Strong understanding of commercial construction methodologies, materials, QA systems and industry regulations.
· A natural leader who communicates clearly, builds trust and keeps clients and stakeholders informed throughout every stage of a project.
· Committed to continuous improvement and delivering projects safely, on time and to a high standard.
