Counsellor / Advocate - Harmful Sexual Behaviours (HSB)

We have an opportunity for motivated and passionate professional Counsellor / Advocate to join our dedicated Not-For-Profit organisation.

Operating within the Sexual Assault & Family Violence Therapeutic Services Team, this role is primarily responsible for the provision of responsive and developmentally appropriate assessment and therapeutic treatment to children under the age of 18 years who engage in problem or abusive sexual behaviours and the underlying harm they have experienced.

About the Role

In this position you will work with children, young people and their families and/or carers to stop the behaviours and reestablish age and stage appropriate behaviours.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

• Deliver high quality, inclusive and flexible counselling, advocacy and/or therapeutic support including client engagement, intake and assessment, case planning, intervention, review and case closure to children and young people engaging in harmful sexual behaviours and their families.

• Engage with children, young people and their families to deliver ‘evidence based’ person-directed support.

• Support children and young people engaging in harmful sexual behaviours and their families to identify and implement short and long term goals.

• While this role is primary focused on HSB, the successful candidate will also be supporting survivors of sexual violence.

• Follow current standards of practice and legislation relevant to the role.

• Be responsible to recall demands on a planned rostered basis.

• Perform the intake function on a planned rostered basis.

About you

Your specialist expertise and experience should include:

• Tertiary qualification in Psychology, OT, Social Work or other relevant and/or equivalent field.

• Demonstrated experience delivering trauma informed case management or counselling to victim survivors and/or children and young people engaging in harmful sexual behaviours.

• High level interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with people and build trusting therapeutic relationships.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• The ability to work as part of a team and autonomously.

• Experience with working in collaboration with other services to ensure integrated care for the children, young people and their families.
