Commis Chef

Farview Tavern, an iconic part of the Mackay community since 1981, located 11km from Mackay CBD is expanding its team and looking for a Commis Chef.

We are seeking a motivated and passionate Commis Chef to join our kitchen team. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their culinary skills in a fast-paced, professional environment. You will assist senior chefs in food preparation, maintaining kitchen standards, and contribute to delivering high-quality dishes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and cooking of menu items under the supervision of senior chefs

• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness

• Follow recipes and presentation specifications as directed

• Prepare ingredients (chopping, peeling, marinating, etc.)

• Ensure proper storage and labelling of food items

• Support kitchen operations during service periods

• Clean and organize kitchen stations before, during, and after service

• Learn and develop new cooking techniques and skills

Requirements

• Basic culinary training or relevant certification (preferred)

• Previous kitchen experience is essential

• Strong willingness to learn and grow in a culinary career

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

• Good communication and teamwork skills

• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
