About the role
THE JOB
Council is seeking an experienced water industry professional with a strong technical background in water and sewer network operations, maintenance and construction who can effectively manage the operation, maintenance, and capital upgrades of water supply and wastewater infrastructure, ensuring infrastructure is maintained, renewed and upgraded in line with service standards, regulatory requirements and community expectations.
This role’s capabilities require the ability to manage projects and a multi-disciplinary team of technical staff, operational staff, treatment plant operators and contractors. You will have the experience to manage budget preparation, procurement, expenditure and guide long-term asset lifecycle strategies
You are a capable people leader who can motivate teams, build capability and foster a culture of accountability, safety and continuous improvement and align performance with strategic and operational goals.
You bring a practical and strategic approach to managing operational programs and understand the importance of balancing service delivery, compliance, risk management and customer expectations. Your communication and stakeholder engagement skills enable you to build effective working relationships across all levels of an organisation and with external partners.

Essential Criteria
Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering and water, wastewater, or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through experience.
Contemporary knowledge and experience in the identification, implementation and control of water supply and sewerage works.
Demonstrated experience in driving a first contact resolution, customer focused culture within service teams and across the organisation.
Ability to effectively engage with government agencies, professional associations, private sector, industry and community stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to inform corporate strategy development and advise on operational planning and service delivery.
Demonstrated ability to develop and manage the portfolio budget.
Demonstrated ability to manage, coach and support staff to achieve work targets and performance objectives.
Current Class C Drivers’ Licence.
Desirable Criteria
Previous Local Government experience.

Snowy Valleys Council is a scenic and heritage rich local government area located in the South-West Slopes region of New South Wales. THE BENEFITS
Permanent Full-Time position of 70 hrs per fortnight, with a Salary range of $5217.08 to $5871.80 per fortnight (gross) plus 12% superannuation. Salary offered within the range will be negotiated based on qualifications, skills and experience.

Generous leave entitlements including access to long service leave after 5 years and paid parental leave
Flexible work options including 9-day fortnight

Snowy Valleys Council is currently subject to a proposed de-amalgamation process which is expected to result in the establishment of two successor Councils effective from 1 July 2028.In event of de-amalgamation all employee positions, functions, and work areas will be allocated to a successor council, and employment will be transferred to that successor council in accordance with any applicable legislation, industrial instrument, government direction, or approved transition arrangements without requirement to apply for the transferred position.
