As a Youth Support Volunteer, you will assist the Youth Workers to provide a safe, after-hours space for young people experiencing homelessness or at the risk of experiencing homelessness (ages 12 - 25 years) in inner-city Brisbane. The opportunity For this role you will need good conversational skills and the ability to relate to and empathise with a broad range of people, including those with different lived experiences, abilities, and cultures.   Key Responsibilities Include: Respond with Psychological First Aid (PFA) as needed for young people accessing the Night Cafe space – training provided Communicate with and engage young people from diverse backgrounds, including face-to-face communication, internal and external mail communication, and telephone calls Pass on relevant information from or about young people in line with confidentiality and duty of care requirements Supporting young people to access service information or link with outreach workers where appropriate Develop meaningful activities to be undertaken at Night Cafe and facilitate their implementation Ability to learn about issues affecting young people, including mental illness, homelessness, and drug and alcohol abuse and empathise with homeless and at risk young people Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world’s largest humanitarian network.       The impact As a Youth Support Volunteer at the Night Cafe, you’ll help to increase skills of young people to take care of themselves and to support their friends.    Application requirements For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross.   To submit this application, you will need to upload a recent copy of your CV and provide details for two professional references.  The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory.  Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check.   Further information To find out more about this opportunity please contact Bindi Wenitong via nightcafe@redcross.org.au Thank you for considering volunteering at Red Cross.
